Yoga Every Damn Day?

An empowering sentiment, but what does it actually mean? Jess shares her thoughts…

I’ve seen it on social media, I’ve heard people say it, I’ve said it, and I’ve one hundred percent used it as a hashtag. #cringe

For many of us (me included), the summer is a really busy time of year. The kids are off school, we go on holiday, we see family and friends more, plans/ routines change, childcare needs change, and before we know it it’s been a good few weeks before we’ve stepped on our mat or headed to a yoga class. And guess what, THAT’S TOTALLY OK!

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to practice yoga every damn day or week or month or year to be a “proper yogi”. But I bet there’s a bit of you that’s beating yourself up though, am I right? It’s ok for your practice to change and adapt to your needs. You might decide to take a break or step back entirely. It doesn’t make you any less yogic. In fact, perhaps the most advanced yogi is the one who ignores the ego and actually does what feels best for them!

Remember, the physical practice is just one aspect of yoga. Making a conscious decision to honour our boundaries or take step back because we have other things going on, particularly when we’re busy and practice feels more like a choice than a release valve – is, I would argue, yoga in action.

So, if it’s a been a while cut yourself some slack. Yoga will always be there. Our beautiful yoga space with hot tea will always be there, ready for you to engage however you need.
